BYD Han EV: replacing the brake fluid
Every 2 years or 40,000 km — HZY6 (DOT 4) fluid. Interval and amounts for two-wheel-drive and 4×4 cars.
BYD Han EV: replacing the brake fluid
The brake fluid on the Han EV should be replaced every 2 years or every 40,000 km, whichever comes first. The specified fluid is HZY6 (DOT 4).
Key data
- Interval: 2 years or 40,000 km (whichever comes first).
- Specification: HZY6 (DOT 4).
- Amount: 1.13 ± 0.2 L (two-wheel drive); 1.15 ± 0.2 L (four-wheel drive).
Why every 2 years
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers its boiling point. In an electric car part of the braking is done by energy recuperation, so the friction brakes work less — the fluid therefore ages mainly with time rather than with mileage. Hence the fixed two-year limit.
What to watch for
- Use the fluid specified by the manufacturer (DOT 4 / HZY6) and do not mix it with fluids of another specification.
- The system must be bled thoroughly afterwards; the brake pedal must not feel spongy.
- It is a good moment to check pad thickness and disc condition as well.
