Panoramic roof care

Seven rules that protect the seals, water drains and electric motor of the roof — in winter too.

Panoramic roof care

How to look after the panoramic roof, according to a manufacturer's manual:

  • Wipe dust or sand off the roof's outer sealing strips with a damp cloth so as not to scratch them — that would affect the seal.
  • Wipe dust or sand off the mouldings next to the front glass with a damp cloth, taking care not to scratch them.
  • Fully open the roof's front glass and clean its front part and the rear glass more often, so that dust, sand and leaves do not build up and the water drains are not blocked by such debris — which would lead to poor drainage from the roof.
  • Clean the guide rails on both sides and the front shield more often, for the same reason.
  • When washing, do not aim the water jet directly at the seals — this avoids damaging the strips and water leaking into the car.
  • In winter the roof freezes easily, and forcing it open can damage the seals or other parts. If it has frozen, warm up the car and switch the air conditioning on to speed up melting the snow and ice. Try to open the roof once the temperature inside has reached a suitable level. Dry off any remaining moisture so it does not freeze again.
  • Do not open the roof fully on very rough roads — vibration between the roof and the rail can deform the parts and even damage the electric motor. Do not open the roof in the rain or while washing the car either.
