"Battery" in a BYD Seal U can mean two different things: the main high-voltage traction pack (Blade Battery) or the smaller 12V battery that powers the onboard electronics. This article focuses on the traction pack — it's the one that determines range and charging.

Which battery does the BYD Seal U use

The electric BYD Seal U (E) 160kW variant uses BYD's Blade Battery — lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells in a Cell-to-Body (CTB) architecture, where the cells form part of the floor structure. This variant carries an 87 kWh pack, a WLTP range of up to roughly 500 km, and energy consumption of about 17.4 kWh/100 km.

LFP cells have somewhat lower energy density than the NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) cells used in some competing models, but they're far more resistant to degradation from daily charging to 100% — which is actually the recommended way to use them, unlike NMC packs.

Charging

The pack supports DC fast charging at up to 140 kW — in practice, a 10–80% charge takes about 42 minutes at an average of roughly 87 kW. The pack's nominal voltage is around 512 V.

  • DC fast charging: up to 140 kW, 10–80% in ~42 min
  • WLTP range: up to ~500 km
  • Energy consumption: ~17.4 kWh/100 km
  • Pack nominal voltage: ~512 V

Durability and warranty

BYD covers the traction pack with an 8-year/200,000 km warranty. LFP cells last longer and tolerate deep discharges better than older chemistries — there's also no need to cap daily charging at 80%, as is often recommended for NMC-based cars.

Can the battery be replaced as a spare part

The main traction pack is covered by the manufacturer's warranty and serviced only through the authorized network — we don't stock it as a spare part. If you suspect a battery or charging-system fault, send us your VIN through the contact form — we'll help determine whether it qualifies for warranty repair or needs further diagnostics.

Need other parts for your BYD Seal U instead — suspension, brakes, or body parts? Check the full BYD Seal U parts catalog or send us your VIN and we'll confirm fitment before you order.
