MG ZS EV: reading fault codes without a dealer tool

Which generic scanners reach the battery management module, and what the common P0A codes actually mean.

The battery management module (BMS) on the MG ZS EV answers standard OBD-II requests, but most popular scanners only read the drivetrain layer and don't reach deeper into the high-voltage CAN bus. A full read needs an adapter that supports the extended MG/SAIC protocol.

The most common P0A-range codes flag cell-module imbalance and a single-cell temperature threshold — in practice they usually point to one weaker module rather than a whole-pack failure.

Before opening the high-voltage housing, always follow the service manual's capacitor discharge wait time and use gloves rated for live work.
