A control arm (also called a wishbone or A-arm) is a hinged suspension link that connects the vehicle's chassis to the wheel hub. It lets the wheel move up and down over bumps while keeping it properly aligned and in contact with the road. In common MacPherson-strut suspensions it usually forms the lower link, while double-wishbone designs pair an upper and lower triangular arm to locate the wheel without extra bracing. (Source)
