A radiator is a heat exchanger made up of many small tubes finned in a honeycomb pattern, positioned to catch airflow from the front of the vehicle, usually behind the grille. Hot coolant arriving from the engine passes through it and gives up its heat to the passing air before returning to the engine. Modern radiators mostly use aluminum cores with plastic end tanks, replacing the brass and copper construction common in older vehicles. (Source)
