An electric vehicle battery is a rechargeable battery pack used to power the electric motor of a battery-electric or hybrid-electric vehicle, most commonly built from lithium-ion cells arranged into modules for a good power-to-weight ratio and energy density. Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) chemistry has been the most common choice, though lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells have become increasingly popular. Because these packs are large and expensive, their design, supply chain, safety and recycling are major considerations for automakers. (Source)
