A brake disc, or rotor, is the rotating metal disc — usually made of cast iron — that forms the core of a disc brake system. It is mounted to the wheel hub and spins with the wheel, and when the brake caliper clamps pads against both of its faces, friction between the pads and the disc slows the wheel and the vehicle.
